I went for a year without using the Internet. It changed me.
Most of this blog was written before the beginning of that year, as I tried to make myself ready to log off. I discussed the wisdom or foolishness of A Year Without Internet, and the psychological and spiritual consequences of internet (over)use. A few posts were put up by a friend during my year of abstinence, as I made discoveries of how it changed my life, and a few posts were written afterward, talking about reentry pains and some conclusions.
I am convinced that an intentional Internet blackout period is totally worth doing, for anybody who loves and lives and loathes on the World Wide Web, although an entire year is probably appropriate only for the very few. A day. Three days. A week. I challenge you to try it. See what happens.
